Waves
Waves, a stunning multi-media presentation from Colorado-based photographic artist Dona Laurita, explore our responses to the highs and lows created by the turbulence of life. Through the images and objects that Laurita creates, we explore the meaning of waves in our everyday lives, and their power to carry us through important transitions. We move in accordance with their ebb and flow, through stability and change, meaning and mystery.
A professional photographer for many decades, Dona considers her relationship with visual art and poetry to be the most real and grounding experience of her life next to motherhood. Photography demands presence and a crucial awareness of one's existence at the moment. Presence allows a connection with emotion, light, drama, and depth, all of which are quintessential elements in Dona's work.
Her images invite the observer to explore ways of seeing and feeling and encourage the viewer to participate in the essence of the ordinary, be it the power of a simple gesture, the quality and diversity of light, or a moment in time that may otherwise have been overlooked.
Waves is comprised of five primary pieces:
Brain Waves delves into the five types of waves in the human brain. - The Before and The After depicts our lives when experiencing a shattering, life-changing event. - In Fountain of Tears, grief is front and center. - Waves of Memory immerse us into photographic surrealism and collage filled with the artist's memories. - Death's Door, an actual, moving door, moves us into the transition from this life to the next, this reality to another one.
